“AUTISM AND ART” was the title of the event held within the framework of Autism Awareness Day in cooperation with the Republican Pedagogical – Psychology Center and the faculty of Special and Inclusive Education of the Armenian State Pedagogical University.
RPPC acting director Haykuhi Adamyan quoting the famous observation, “If you know someone with autism, you only know him/her” highlighted the reality that everyone with autism is special and that art can play a big role in their lives.
The communicative function of art, particularly fine art, was addressed by PhD Associate Professor/Chair of Fine Arts Sevada Sargsyan.
The initiative was welcomed by the Dean of Faculty of Art Education, Doctor of Arts (PhD)/ Chair of Art History, Theory and Cultural Studies Ara Hakobyan. He draws attention to the role of the RPPC in discovering connections between autism and art.
Lecturer of the Chair of Speech Therapy and Rehabilitation Therapy Alvina Hayrapetyan, presented the role and possibilities of fine arts in the diagnosis of autism in the report on “Basics of psychological diagnosis through art therapy”.
Then, the students of the Faculty of Special and Inclusive Education held an interactive game “Learn more about autism”, and the winners were awarded with certificates.
Furthermore, RPPC “Miasin” theater troupe presented a small performance about famous people with autism. The performance of the theater group ended with the premiere of a lovely song, which was in line with the mood of the day.
The interesting event was concluded with Sevada Sargsyan’s individual exhibition.
