APRIL 2 IS WORLD AUTISM AWARENESS DAY
World Autism Awareness Day is another opportunity to talk about people with autism, the realization of their various rights, their acceptance by society, and especially their unique characteristics.
People with autism are unique in the way they express themselves. There is a perception that if you know one person with autism, you only know that one individual. The characteristics of autism vary significantly from person to person and cover a broad spectrum. This is why it is commonly referred to as Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). Autism is classified as a neurodevelopmental disorder characterized by difficulties in communication and social interaction, as well as behavioral disorders.
The learning, thinking, and problem-solving abilities of children with Autism Spectrum Disorder can range from exceptional talents to significant challenges. Because of their unique communication style, they often face problems in school, the community, and various social environments when it comes to accessing education, healthcare, and other fundamental rights, as well as self-expression and self-affirmation.
The implementation of relevant approaches deriving from the unique characteristics of people with autism and targeted programs in this direction can contribute to the development of their independent living skills and effective social inclusion, thus also ensuring the realization of their various rights.
