AWARE PARENTS BUILD STRONG AND SUPPORTIVE COMMUNITIES
On May 16, 2025, an online course for parents on “HOW TO RECOGNIZE WARNING SIGNS OF VISION PROBLEMS IN CHILDREN” was held.
The trainer of the Course was Susanna Muradyan, a specialist at RPPC Content Development Department, PhD in Pedagogical Sciences, Associate Professor.
The main aim of the Course was to inform parents about the warning signs of visual impairment so that they can recognize their children’s impairment promptly, respond to them correctly, and provide professional intervention as needed.
The Course attached importance to the early detection of vision impairment in ensuring children’s overall development, education, and social inclusion. The main topics discussed related to several areas:
- ✦ development of children’s vision by age periods: newborns, preschoolers, school-aged children;
- ✦ differences between normal and worrying developments;
- ✦ common warning signs of vision impairment (e.g., frequent rubbing of the eyes, squinting, the need to look at objects closely), as well as problems appearing at school, i.e., looking at things written in a book or on the blackboard from a very close distance;
- ✦ the possible impact of vision impairment on children’s academic progress, behavioral and psychological manifestations, and social inclusion.
During the Course, the speaker also suggested methods of observation and support used by parents at home, as well as useful tools and procedures that will help notice changes at an early age, and have the right conversation with the child in order to understand the problem and support the child.
