AWARE PARENTS BUILD STRONG AND SUPPORTIVE COMMUNITIES
On September 29, an online course for parents on the topic “COOPERATION BETWEEN PARENTS AND PROFESSIONALS: HOW TO ACHIEVE DESIRED OUTCOMES IN THE DEVELOPMENT OF A CHILD WITH MENTAL DISORDERS” was held.
The trainer of the Course is Tereza Azatyan, a specialist at RPPC Department of Content Development, PhD in Pedagogical Sciences, Associate Professor.
The trainer presented the key factors necessary for organizing and ensuring efficiency in working with children with intellectual disabilities. The role of mutual trust, cooperation, and a unified approach in the process of discovering and including the child’s abilities was emphasized.
T. Azatyan attached importance to the creation of a right and supportive educational environment, where the children will be able to demonstrate their best qualities. In this context, she emphasized the support from the parents, which is aimed at the primary goal of universal inclusion, which is to improve the quality of life of the child and contribute to their socialization, the formation of independent life skills, and self-expression in society. The importance of ensuring a daily educational environment, where play and, in general, everyday activities are of particular importance, was also emphasized.
Within the framework of parent-school cooperation, the trainer highlighted the need for information transfer between parents and specialists and the availability of cooperation skills. In the context of the dynamic development of a child, parent-child cooperation was also addressed, which is of essential importance in revealing the child’s developmental opportunities, increasing their self-esteem, and in many other aspects.
Within the framework of activities aimed at increasing the effectiveness of parenting skills, the trainer also considered the involvement of technology, i.e., the presence of various online platforms available to the parental community, which create an environment for parents to exchange experiences, make suggestions, and have discussions.
The participants of the Course also raised questions of interest to them, which led to lively discussions and proposed solutions.
