APRIL 2 IS WORLD AUTISM AWARENESS DAY
The main message of the day is to promote the full realization of the fundamental rights and freedoms of the people with autism, ensuring equal and active participation in public life. The day is intended to raise public awareness about the rights, dignity and potential of people with autism spectrum disorders.
In 2026, events dedicated to World Autism Awareness Day are being held under the theme “Autism and Humanity – Every Life Has Value.” It emphasizes that every person with autism has equal rights, importance, and an irreplaceable role in society.
Today, the global approach has evolved towards the idea of “more than just awareness,” emphasizing not only awareness but also acceptance, inclusion, and support. Much attention is being paid to neurodiversity as an important source of creativity, resilience, and innovative thinking.
The Republican Pedagogical-Psychological Center regularly implements awareness-raising and professional support programs through training courses, parenting courses, seminars, as well as awareness-raising campaigns organized in educational institutions. These initiatives are aimed at ensuring a safe, inclusive and supportive educational environment, including for children with autism spectrum disorders, contributing to the development of their independent living skills and effective socialization.
Additionally, one of the symbolic and widely recognized initiatives of the day is the “Light It Up Blue” campaign. Within the framework of the campaign people, organizations and cities “turn their surroundings blue” in various ways: famous buildings and landmarks are illuminated in blue, and people wear blue clothes. This initiative is not only a visible sign of support, but also an important message aimed at fostering tolerance and care toward people with autism spectrum disorders. By uniting everyone around a shared idea, it seeks to create a more inclusive and humane society.
