Within the framework of the “Resource Room” Pilot Program implemented in cooperation with the Republican Pedagogical-Psychological Center, UNICEF Armenia, and Perkins School for the Blind Organization, training courses on the “‘RESOURCE ROOM’ PILOT MODEL METHODOLOGY” topic were held in the following schools involved in the Program: Yerevan Basic School № 20 Named After John Kirakosyan, Yerevan Basic School № 100 Named After Davit Sarapyan, and Gyumri Basic School №15 Named After Vahan Teryan.
The trainer was Lusine Hakobyan, Methodologist-Trainer and Special Educator at RPPC Department of Training and Methodological Support.
The pedagogical and administrative staff of the mentioned schools, specialists from the Territorial Pedagogical-Psychological Support Centers working with the students included in the program, as well as parents, attended the training courses.
The aim of the courses was to develop and improve the professional skills of pedagogical staff and parents involved in the “Resource Room” Pilot Program, in order to to contribute to the realization of the right to education of students with special educational needs due to mental (intellectual) issues and those who need 3rd and 4th level support of pedagogical-psychological services for organizing education.
The training courses had a general practical focus: the participants were taught various strategies, skills and techniques necessary for working with students with special educational needs due to mental (intellectual) issues and those who need 3rd and 4th level support of pedagogical-psychological services for organizing education. Practical group works were carried out in various formats, and the conditions for universal design of learning (UDL), accessibility of the environment and reasonable adaptations were presented to the participants through assistive devices and technologies, adapted materials and specialized teaching methods.
The courses were accompanied by interesting discussions, during which the parents of students included in the Pilot Program shared their positive opinions about the latter, documenting the effectiveness and importance of the Program.
