AWARE PARENTS BUILD STRONG AND SUPPORTIVE COMMUNITIES
On March 19, 2026, an online course for parents was held on “EFFECTIVE MODELS FOR THE DEVELOPMENT OF SOCIAL SKILLS IN CHILDREN WITH AUTISM” topic.
The Course was conducted by Syuzanna Petrosyan, a specialist at RPPC Content Development Department.
The aim of the Course was to provide knowledge and skills to parents and professionals that will contribute to the development of socialization skills of children with autism and other developmental disabilities, their integration into society, as well as the encouragement and creation of environments conducive to the successful socialization of children.
The speaker presented different strategies for teaching social norms and skills, various forms of participation in public life of children with autism, and modern approaches that contribute to the development of their social skills. Importance was attached to the teaching of necessary social behaviours through behavioural modeling, early intervention, as well as the favourable influence of academic environments in terms of the development of speech and social skills.
The aims of social skills training were clarified, namely:
- ✦ to teach children a complex response system that will allow them to adapt to different environmental situations;
- ✦ to develop abilities that will allow them to reduce negative behaviour and anxiety;
- ✦ to adapt to new and unexpected situations;
- ✦ to overcome difficulties;
- ✦ to prevent the manifestation of negative emotions;
- ✦ to make decisions.
Structured learning and effective instruction, as well as forms of social interaction support were discussed.
Parent-child relationships as a stimulus for social-emotional development, as well as methods for identifying children’s strengths and using them to promote their socialization were considered.
The meeting was accompanied by a lively Q&A session, during which the participants received advice and guidance on various issues of concern to them.
