In cooperation with the RA Ministry of ESCS, the Republican Pedagogical-Psychological Center, the National Center for Education Development and Innovation Foundation (NCEDI), the Armenian State Pedagogical University named after Kh. Abovyan and UNICEF Armenia, teacher’s first conference entitled “EDUCATION – A PILLAR OF THE STATE” was held on June 1, 2024. More than 600 teachers from 46 schools participated.
The conference aimed to contribute to the improvement of the quality of education, modernization, and increasing the efficiency of the educational process as the most important factor in the development of the state, as well as to spread the advanced experience of the implementation of the state standard of general education, to unite the intellectual potential of teaching work in the implementation of the new state standard.
RA Minister of ESCS Zhanna Andreasyan and Rector of Khachatur Abovyan Armenian State Pedagogical University Srbuhi Gevorgyan welcomed the guests.
Welcoming the attendees, Zh. Andreasyan referred to teachers’ unprecedented active participation and emphasized the necessity of holding similar conferences. The minister mentioned that the educational system is one of the cornerstones of the development of the state, but it is necessary to fully understand and imagine how the school should contribute to the development of the state. Additionally, she emphasized the formation of legal awareness and value position among children, which will enable them to navigate difficult situations correctly.
At the plenary session of the conference, speeches were made by the deputy minister of the RA ESCS Araqsia Svajyan, and the acting director of the NCEDI Foundation, Artashes Torosyan.
A. Svajyan referred to the changes implemented within the framework of the state standard of general education, emphasizing the importance of the transition from knowledge-based education to ability-based education and the procedures for its implementation, presented the reforms implemented in the field of general education, the results recorded in the current school year, the existing challenges and their coping, as well as the measures aimed at promoting communication between teachers to share successful experience.
Then the participants continued their work in 4 directions. 60 speakers presented reports on the following topics:
- ✦ The National School, a center of education and culture
- ✦ The role of education in the development of the state
- ✦ Empowering education as a stimulus for civil society development
- ✦ Education in the digital society, challenges, issues, prospects of the state.
The conference was concluded with round table discussions, the topics of which were:
- ✦ Presentation of a successful outcome-based learning experience. Project learning, new methods and approaches
- ✦ Assessment as a means of learning
- ✦ Ability to organize learner preferences and learning support. after-school programs and clubs for children
The next conference for teachers is planned to be held in October, before the teacher’s day, and will be dedicated to the discussion of pedagogic methods.
