The final meeting of this round of the series of Parenting Skills Development courses took place on June 4, 2024.
RPPC director Lilit Mnatsakanyan welcomed the participants and spoke about the importance of acquiring knowledge and skills on positive parenting, sharing parenting experience, and expressing confidence in the effectiveness of the current course.
The training courses were aimed at acquiring and developing knowledge, skills, and abilities about positive parenting, sharing positive parenting experiences, creating an atmosphere of mutual assistance, strengthening cooperation with the parenting community, as well as helping parents of children with SEN to overcome the problems and difficulties they face. Also, participants jointly develop effective mechanisms that will contribute to reducing the incidence of violence in schools and achieving success in the field of education.
The speakers were RPPC specialist Marina Hovhannisyan and psychologist Anna Hovhannisyan. The training courses were attended by parents, many of them were also pedagogues from various educational establishments and specialists working with children with developmental disabilities.
During the training courses, the participants jointly discussed the mechanisms and ways of overcoming conflict situations and relationships with children at different age stages. Also, the ways of positive parenting, the influence of interpersonal relations of parents on children’s mental health, and issues related to ensuring their psychological safety.
Additionally, they talked about positive educational methods, effective mechanisms for changing children’s unwanted behavior, punishment and encouragement, the cause-and-effect relationships of their various forms and manifestations, the circumstances of a child’s mistakes, the ways and opportunities to correctly influence those mistakes, emphasizing children’s awareness of the logical consequences of their actions, punishment, as well as the formation of children’s independent decision-making skills.
Parents and specialists working with children gained knowledge and skills on positive parenting methods, making the relationship between parents and children warmer and more constructive, exchanged their experience of parenting, analyzing different situations and making appropriate conclusions.
At the summary meeting, L. Mnatsakanyan also answered the parents’ questions and then handed certificates to the participants for active participation in the “Positive parenting skills” training course.
