The Republican Pedagogical-Psychological Center continues the training of trainers (TOT) on the “CHANGE OF PERCEPTION: EXPANDING TEACHERS’ RIGHTS AND OPPORTUNITIES. INTERPERSONAL COMMUNICATION AND COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT TO SUPPORT INCLUSIVE EDUCATION” topic with the participation of specialists from the RA Territorial Pedagogical-Psychological Support Centers.
The courses are aimed at contributing to the formation of the necessary capacities of specialists of Territorial Pedagogical-Psychological Support Centers to assist the process of social inclusion, help them develop their skills and self-confidence in the application of inclusive practices, cooperation with different segments of the population, and the formation of a culture of inclusion in their educational and social communities. During the training courses, the challenges, opportunities, and problems that exist in working with children with special needs are addressed.
Participants gain knowledge and skills on innovative and practical ways to engage and collaborate with families and communities, looking at the roles of themselves, educators, parents, and communities in general. The interactive, hands-on training sessions allow participants to put into practice what they have learned, test new approaches, respond to and receive feedback from colleagues and trainers in a safe environment, examine their own biases toward marginalized groups, as well as reevaluate their beliefs and values about education.
During the training sessions, the factors of understanding the key concepts of inclusion, interpersonal communication, considering educational institutions as institutional authorities, and emphasizing the importance of the director of the institution in the process of implementing inclusive education are highlighted.
The participants get acquainted with the strategies and approaches that ensure the effectiveness of working with people from diverse cultural backgrounds in groups during the learning process.
Currently, around 435 specialists from 19 Territorial Republican-Pedagogical Support Centers of the Republic of Armenia have participated in the training sessions.
The present module on interpersonal communication in the context of inclusive education, “Change of Perception: Expanding Teachers’ Rights and Opportunities” was developed by UNICEF Regional Office for Europe and Central Asia and localized by the Republican Pedagogical-Psychological Center in collaboration with UNICEF Armenia.
