Promoting healthy lifestyles among youth and reducing the risks associated with psychoactive substance use have been declared state priorities in the Republic of Armenia.
In accordance with the provisions regarding general education set forth in “The Strategic Plan 2025-2027 for Combating the Non-Medical Use and Illicit Trafficking of Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances” (approved by RA Government Decision N 736-L dated June 5, 2025) and within the framework of enhancing the psycho-pedagogical support services provided in general education institutions for cases involving drug use by minors, the
“METHODOLOGICAL GUIDE ON THE PREVENTION OF DRUG AND PSYCHOTROPIC SUBSTANCE USE AMONG ADOLESCENTS AND YOUTH” has been developed through the cooperation of the Republican Pedagogical-Psychocological Center and the National Center for Addictions Treatment.
The Guide is intended for psychologists, teachers, behavioural specialists, social workers, and other professionals working in the field of psychoactive substance use prevention among youth.
The aim of the Guide is to help improve pedagogical-psychological support for students in general education institutions who use drugs or belong to groups at-risk by promoting the use of effective prevention methods, the early identification of risks, and the provision of appropriate support.
The Guide has been developed in accordance with international standards and covers the following key topics:
- ✦ specifics of working with different age groups;
- ✦ types of narcotic drugs and psychotropic (psychoactive) substances;
- ✦ key concepts related to the field;
- ✦ health-related and socio-psychological harms associated with psychoactive substance use;
- ✦ potential early signs of drug use among minors;
- ✦ support and referral mechanisms;
- ✦ effective communication techniques and interactive methods for working with audiences.
The Guide has been officially approved for use as an educational material by Order N 1507-A/2 of the Minister of Education, Science, Culture and Sports of the Republic of Armenia dated July 29, 2026.
