Amendments and additions have been made to the admission procedure for bachelor’s, continuous, and integrated academic programmes at state and non-state higher education institutions of the Republic of Armenia.
The draft decision “On Making Amendments and Additions to Decision N 597-N of the Government of the Republic of Armenia dated April 27, 2012” was approved at the Government meeting of the Republic of Armenia held on April 18.
The amendments and additions are substantiated by the need to regulate the admission process to higher education institutions, taking into account that:
- ✦ the state standard of general education has been revised;
- ✦ new qualitative requirements have been established for graduates of secondary education programs;
- ✦ new curricula, study plans, textbooks and other educational materials related to the content of the educational process have been developed and approved.
A new provision is introduced in the admission procedure for higher education institutions, according to which, within 10 days after the deadline for submitting applications at the respective stages of admission, applicants with special educational needs or their legal representatives shall apply to the Assessment and Testing Center and submit relevant documents certifying their special educational needs, including medical certificates, in order to ensure reasonable adaptations during the entrance exams.
These include:
- ✦ alternative means of oral and written communication;
- ✦ personal assistive devices;
- ✦ sign language interpreters, etc.
In addition, the decision also made a number of other technical changes.
The decision stems from the Armenia Transformation Strategy 2050, the State Program and Action Plan for the Development of Education in the Republic of Armenia until 2030, as well as the strategic goals of the Government of the Republic of Armenia for the review of the principles and mechanisms of admission to higher education institutions aimed at reforming the higher education field, as defined in the 2021-2026 Program of the Government of the Republic of Armenia.
