A meeting-discussion with parents took place at RPPC on November 6, 2024.
The aim of the Meeting was to provide parents with information on the “Resource-Classroom” pilot program, implemented in collaboration with the Republican Pedagogical-Psychological Center, UNICEF Armenia, and the Perkins School for the Blind.
The “Resource-Classroom” pilot program is aimed at the realization of the right to education of children in general education institutions of the Republic of Armenia, including those receiving home-based education, who have special educational needs due to communication and mental (intellectual) problems and those who need 3rd and 4th level support of pedagogical and psychological services, and who need to be gradually involved in the learning process.
The Meeting was attended by parents, specialists, as well as representatives of UNICEF Armenia, RPPC, and TPPS Centers.
Conveying “Every Learner Matters and is Equally Important” core message of the Program, RPPC Director Lilit Mnatsakanyan presented the concept of the “Resource-Classroom” in detail, touched upon the purpose of the introduction of the Program, its functions, the conditions of participation, the requirements for the education institution, as well as the expected outcomes. She emphasized that one of the key conditions for the implementation of the Program is the gradual increase in the volume of student inclusion, which does not mean keeping the child in a separate environment in the same school area according to their needs, but gradually provides more and more opportunities to be in the environment of peers and learn together with them.
L. Mnatsakanyan also noted that during the implementation of the Program, Universal Design for Learning (UDL) conditions, environmental accessibility, and reasonable adaptations are ensured through assistive devices and technologies, adapted materials, and specialized learning strategies.
RPPC Director also emphasized the importance of training parents in this context, aiming at the development of parenting skills and strengthening the parent community. She also noted that the inclusion of children in the Pilot Program and all processes envisaged by the Program are carried out with the consent of the parents.
The Meeting was accompanied by productive and interesting discussions, during which specialists and parents raised questions of interest to them.
Parents of children included in the Pilot Program, who were also present at the Meeting, shared the two-month experience of their children’s enrollment in the Resource-Classroom, attaching importance to the continuity of the Program and the introduction of positive experiences in other schools as well.
The Republican Pedagogical-Psychological Center is always open for constructive discussions and effective cooperation aimed at ensuring the availability and accessibility of education for all children.
We would like to remind you that in the 2024-2025 academic year, the Pilot Program is being implemented in Yerevan Basic School №20 named after John Kirakosyan, Yerevan Basic School №100 named after Davit Sarapyan, and Gyumri Basic School №15 named after Vahan Teryan.
