The series of August consultations for the 2023-2024 academic year was concluded in Yerevan. The discussion was moderated by RA Minister of ESCS Zhanna Andreasyan. Directors and deputy directors of educational establishments participated in the consultation.
The meeting was attended by RA Deputy Minister of ECSC Araqsia Svajyan, officials of the Ministry, Yerevan Municipality, representatives of the Republican Pedagogical-Psychological Center, NCEDI Foundation, National Center of Educational Technologies, and other officials as well.
Zhanna Andreasyan referred to the expected changes in the new academic year, emphasizing that they are aimed at making education more efficient. Also, she characterized the new academic year as a year of educational progress.
We are talking about the new standard of general education, the new system of school funding, and other changes. She noted, that teachers are given a new toolkit, which provides more flexible opportunities to solve the problems.
RA Deputy Minister of ECSC Araqsia Svajyan presented the changes implemented in the field, which are conditioned by the amendments to the law “On Preschool Education”. She highlighted the system of total inclusive education implemented in the educational establishments since last year, within the framework of which trainings were carried out. Also, according to the new regulation, the requirement for a certificate as a result of the assessment of the child’s needs has been removed since last year.
Based on the conclusion of the Territorial Pedagogical-Psychological Support Center (TPPSC), the kindergarten and the TPPSC organize the assessment process of the child’s needs.
The financial resources specially allocated by the state should be directed only to the creation of an appropriate environment for children with SEN. Additionally, she informed that the range of children with SEN has been expanded to include children with exceptional abilities, who also need to have the opportunity to be assessed and receive appropriate support.
During the meeting with directors of high and private schools, issues related to the new model of school funding were also discussed, which refer to the four components of the organization of inclusive education: the physical environment and smart adaptations of educational establishments, the mandatory introduction of psychologist and teacher’s assistant positions. The participants also addressed the issue of disseminating information about children’s personal data.
