On June 30, 2026, a webinar on the “UNDERSTANDING DEAFBLINDNESS AND COMMUNICATION” topic was held in cooperation with the Republican Pedagogical-Psychological Center and the Perkins School for the Blind organization.
The speakers of the Webinar were Nikolina Juric Tanfara and Martha Majors, experts from “Perkins International” organisation.
During the Webinar, the speakers discussed the fundamental principles of education, communication, and development of children with audiovisual impairments. They presented effective educational strategies based on a clearly structured agenda, aimed at ensuring a predictable beginning, progression, and conclusion for each activity, as well as organizing learning in a natural environment, improving communication, encouraging active participation, and reducing behavioural difficulties.
The importance of continuous assessment was also addressed, along with using its results to establish individual education plans, develop educational programs, and implement the necessary accommodations, taking into account each child’s visual, auditory, and developmental characteristics.
Particular attention was drawn to the importance of communication and its impact on the development of children with audiovisual impairments, in particular, the selection of accessible forms of communication (sign language, tactile communication, use of Braille, hearing aids, various objects, images, and other assistive tools) in ensuring the children’s independence, self-expression, and full participation in community life.
We would like to remind you that the series of webinars is aimed at the exchange of best practices between specialists from different countries.
